60cm stainless steel thermowell for accurate fermenter temperature monitoring.
Sits inside your fermenter, protected from pressure and liquid. Works with
temperature controllers (RAPT, Inkbird, etc.) and any temperature probe under
6.5mm diameter.
Includes duotight bulkhead fitting for easy installation into FermZilla,
KegMenter, or any fermenter with a drilled lid. Can be shortened for smaller
fermenters.
Essential for precision fermentation control (temperature-critical batches,
pressure fermentation, cold crashes).

FAQ
FAQ
Q: What's the difference between a thermowell and a thermometer strip?
A: Thermowell = probe sits inside, protected and dry; measures core temp. Strip thermometer = sticks outside; measures surface temp only. Thermowell is far more accurate.
Q: Will this fit my FermZilla?
A: Yes. FermZilla lids have 1/4" BSP threads; this fitting matches perfectly.
Q: Can I use this on a plastic fermenter?
A: Yes. Drill an 8–12mm hole in the lid and install with the duotight bulkhead.
Q: What temperature probe do I need?
A: Any probe under 6.5mm diameter. RAPT Pill, Inkbird, or pocket thermometer all fit inside.
Q: Can I shorten the thermowell?
A: Yes, with tube cutters. Cut to desired length and score the end so the duotight grips it properly.
Q: Is this food-grade?
A: Yes. 304 stainless steel is food-safe and used for fermentation.
Q: Does it work with pressure fermentation?
A: Yes. It's sealed and pressure-rated up to 30psi (with proper installation).
Q: What comes with it?
A: 60cm stainless thermowell + duotight 8mm bulkhead fitting + o-ring + lock nut.
Q: Why is accurate temperature monitoring important?
A: Different yeast strains have tight fermentation temperature ranges. Even 2–3°C difference changes flavour profile, fermentation speed, and final ABV.
Q: How do I install it?
A: Drill 8–12mm hole in fermenter lid. Insert duotight fitting from below. Thread thermowell through from above. Tighten nut. Use tube cutters to score the thermowell so duotight grips properly under pressure.
Instructions
Instructions
INSTALLATION (For FermZilla or Drilled Lid):
1. If using a drilled lid: Ensure hole is 8–12mm diameter. If using FermZilla lid with 1/4" BSP threads, skip to step 3.
2. For non-threaded lids: Insert the duotight bulkhead fitting from below (female end first). Tighten lock nut hand-tight on top.
3. Insert the 60cm thermowell tube down through the bulkhead fitting until it reaches the bottom.
4. If your fermenter is shorter than 60cm, use tube cutters to shorten the thermowell to fit (leave ~1–2cm below the liquid level).
5. IMPORTANT: Make a score line with tube cutters where the duotight fitting grips the thermowell. This prevents it from sliding under pressure.
6. Insert your temperature probe (RAPT, Inkbird, etc.) through the bulkhead and down into the thermowell. The probe will sit at the core of your liquid.
USING WITH TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER:
1. Connect your RAPT Pill or Inkbird probe to the thermowell's inner tube.
2. Set your target fermentation temperature in the controller.
3. Controller will read the core temperature continuously.
4. Heating/cooling coil (optional) will activate to maintain target temp.
5. Check the thermowell occasionally to ensure the probe hasn't shifted.
SHORTENING THE THERMOWELL:
1. Measure the interior height of your fermenter.
2. Mark the thermowell at desired length (leave ~1–2cm below liquid level).
3. Use tube cutters to cut. Cut straight, not at an angle.
4. Score a light line where the duotight will grip (prevents slipping).
5. Insert into fermenter.
Care & Maintenance
Care & Maintenance
AFTER FERMENTATION:
1. Disconnect the temperature probe from the thermowell.
2. Remove the thermowell by gently unscrewing the bulkhead nut.
3. Rinse with warm water immediately (don't let yeast dry on).
4. Soak in hot water for 10 minutes if residue is stuck.
5. Soak in One-Step or PBW cleaner for 30 minutes if needed.
6. Rinse thoroughly.
7. Air dry completely before storing.
CLEANING THE DUOTIGHT FITTING:
- Wipe the bulkhead fitting with a damp cloth.
- Rinse the o-ring separately.
- Don't soak the fitting in harsh chemicals (can degrade seals).
- Air dry before reassembly.
STORAGE:
- Store thermowell and fitting dry.
- Keep away from direct sunlight (stainless won't degrade, but o-rings can).
- Keep o-ring separate if storing long-term.
- Store in a cool place.
LIFESPAN:
- Stainless steel thermowell: Indefinite (won't wear out)
- Duotight fitting: Many years (o-rings eventually need replacement)
- O-ring replacement: Available separately if fitting becomes weak
